The Workforce Fatigue survey conducted by the Fatigue Management and Minimisation Steering Group (joint project with STONZ, other healthcare unions, Health NZ and Massey University), has now closed, and we want to thank all of you who took the time to participate. Your contribution helps us to have a better understanding of the prevalence and spectrum of fatigue staff are experiencing and ultimately to assist us to develop ways to better manage it.
We’re really pleased with the 16,205 responses we received: a great effort, and a great effort from a clearly motivated workforce for change with regard to fatigue management!
We heard from people right across our DHB workforce with all the occupational groups being well represented from Medical and Dental Specialists/Officers, Resident Doctors, Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Scientific and Technical, Care/Support, Corporate, and Administration/Clerical. A number of people also reached out to us via the survey email box to share their thoughts on fatigue which were not able to be captured in the survey itself. We appreciate people doing this as it gave us other insights to be explored further as part of our wider work programme.
The next steps are for the Massey University Sleep/Wake Research Centre to analyse the survey data and develop the report outlining the key findings. The report will be shared with the Steering Group in the first instance and then a full summary will be shared more widely by the end of the year. We will be back in touch once the summary is available.
