Myth: The STONZ Collective Agreement is only for Registrars. False!
Did you know the STONZ Collective Agreement has clauses that are only for House Officers? These support their ability to access training and to gain a place on an accredited training programme. These are:
Clause 6.5: PGY1 House Officers in their first 6 months will be rostered RDOs and work a 10/4 pattern to ease the transition into being a House Officer.
Clause 7.4: House Officers in their second and subsequent years of service, will be able to access 5 days each year of medical education leave.
Clause 7.5: House Officers in their second and subsequent years of service, are entitled to a one-off 3 week block of medical education leave(in addition to the regular 5 days).
Clause 10.8: House Officers in their second and subsequent years of service, can claim costs pertaining to attending approved course and events that facilitate acceptance into a vocational programme.
Clause 10.9: House Officers in their second and subsequent years of service, $500 per year to support purchase of textbooks, subscriptions to journals, subscriptions to vocational education websites or attend conferences.
Clause 31: Expenses are available for House Surgeons who are required to train away from their base hospitals.
Clause 32: On your first appointment as a House Officer, payments are made for moving to your employing hospital from a previous location.
